Quartet For Trumpets

This particular work was composed in 1983. It draws its inspiration from one of the most significant events in Armenian history: the Battle of Avarairi, 451 A.D., whose 1550th anniversary was celebrated in the year 2001. The Battle of Avarairi, a conflict waged to defend the presence of Christianity in Armenia, is poignant testimony to the long struggle that the Armenian people carried out under the leadership of Vardan Mamikonyan. The composer has sought to create a sonic portrait of Vardan Mamikonyan and his four close disciples. In musical imagery Voskanyan evokes the vast gamut of emotions that must have surrounded that fateful moment.
