Why Not?

Why not? is an invitation to abandon cultural conformity and pursue less conventional techniques, sounds and expressive resources within a wide dynamic range specifically related to the rich sound potential of the B-flat trumpet. Why not? charters an intense and dramatic musical course that begins with a quiet recitative, before the trumpet and the piano start a breathtaking virtuoso chase race that ends in another recitative-cadenza, where several of the unconventional techniques are introduced, judiciously punctuated and stimulated by the piano. Jean-François Michel has developed a creativ and versatile repertoire for his numerous and talented students. Nevertheless, the evident quality of these musical works can successfully enrich recital concert programs outside pedagogical institutions.(jpm)
